A Sligo Circuit Court Judge stated he was 'agog' at the amount offered by an insurance company in a case where a toddler had been accidentally locked in a Sligo creche for thirty minutes.
On been told of the €35,000 offer, Judge Keenan Johnson told the child's barrister, I'm satisfied it is an excellent offer. I'm somewhat agog at the extent of it and I have no hesitation in recommending it."
The action was taken by the child through her mother against CTBF Resource House Centre and Sligo Springboard Co Ltd which operates the Resource House Creche on Racecourse Road in Cranmore.
Barrister for the child Mr Keith O'Grady, instructed by solicitor Mr Gerard McGovern, told the court that the creche had organised a trip but the child, who was at the time almost two, was left behind in a locked room alone for thirty minutes.
According to the barrister the child was crying excessively after the incident, suffered sleep disturbance and became clingy and that the injury suffered was wholly physcological.
Mr O'Grady aslo stated that the child had been assessed by a clinical psychologist.
At a settlement meeting in May 2016 an offer of €35,000 by the insurers was made.
The child's parents were happy to accept the offer.
